Orioles News - 11/1/07 - O's Broadcasters Up For Award

Happy Birthday to me! Now that that is over, I can talk some Baltimore Orioles baseball.

Every year, an award called the Ford C. Frick award is up for grabs. For whom? For broadcasters, that is. It is given to a broadcaster in either radio or television. The award is for baseball only. This year, the O's have 6 announcers up for the award. The candidates for Baltimore baseball coverage are Joe Angel, Jim Hunter, Fred Manfra, Buck Martinez, Gary Thorne, and longtime Oriole Jim Palmer. Fans can cast votes based on this criteria: longevity, continuity with a club, honors, and popularity. There will be a final ballot of 10 candidates that will be announced in early December. There will be three fan selections and seven other candidates determined by a Hall Of Fame research team. Vote Palmer! - John T.
