Orioles News - 10/22/07 - Surhoff Declines Offer
It was an offer he could refuse. I'm talking about B.J. Surhoff, a former player, who was offered a job as a coach for the Baltimore Orioles. He declined the offer, probably because he wants to spend time with family. He has been gone from his family all throughout his playing career, so it would make sense for him to want to stay with his family. But if he had said yes, it would have been a great sign. Surhoff played outfield, 1st base, 3rd base, and was drafted as a catcher. He was also a good hitter. Now that would have been a great addition. A coach who did it all as a player. Maybe he'll want to come in a few years. It was a great idea from Dave Trembley though. He was going after a great player who would have been a great coach. Great job thinking outside of the box there. We are going to need that if we want to compete. - John T.
